CHIC Style | "Mustard is A Must" featuring R. Riveter American Handmade Handbags

Brittany2 Comments

It has arrived! Yes Fall is FINALLY showing it's beautiful face! There is no season I love more than Fall! The cool mornings, boots, sweaters, jackets, scarves, jeans, long socks, do I need to go on?

One of my favorite colors every Fall is mustard yellow! It's a great shade to transition from late Summer to Fall. The amazing thing about this look is that I snagged this dress from for $9.99!

Let's talk about my new found love, R. Riveter. I was first introduced to R. Riveter by my coworker at Columbus State. When I told her I was looking for a job she mentioned her best friend (who I now know is Laura my friend and photographer) just started working for a company and she was making handbags! So I decided to look into the company. I was literally blown away by the concept. R. Riveter was started by two friends Cameron Cruse and Lisa Bradley who are military spouses. They started the company because like most military spouses, they too were unable to find jobs. The average military family moves every 2.9 years. With Lisa's background in business and Cameron's in design they started R. Riveter in 2011.

R. Riveter's mission is to provide mobile employment to military spouses. Not only do they provide mobile employment but they also use up-cycled military materials such as canvas tents, wool blankets, duffle bags, and dress uniforms to make their handbags. Everything is handmade and from the United States. So here's how it works: military spouses across the United States cut, dye, or prep the materials. Then they are shipped to the shop in Southern Pines, NC to be assembled in manufacturing and shipped or sold in the retail store.

I knew I had to apply for the job! At the time, I didn't think there was any way I would get a call from the company but I figured I should try anyways. In April, I was given the opportunity of a lifetime. I started off sewing and I absolutely loved it! As other opportunities became available I started to take on more roles! I am now working in our retail department and also on our marketing team doing public relations work. Sometimes you may catch a glimpse of me on our website modeling some of our amazing bags!

Right now I can say I'm living the dream! I have a job that I absolutely love and when it is time for my husband- to be and I to relocate I know that there will be opportunities for me to stay connected to this amazing company! At R. Riveter we are truly a family. We all understand what each other is going through when it comes to the military lifestyle. In addition to a great work atmosphere, I work with women that are motivated and have a true passion for the company and that is simply priceless.

When I interviewed, Cameron mentioned to me that R. Riveter and CHICNaturalistas have something amazing in common. We both stand by empowering women.  There's no better feeling than knowing that you've inspired another woman to be independent, to be herself and be proud of how she looks!

Now checkout how I styled the Patton Crossbody! It's one of newest handbags in our Signature Collection!

I wore this dress to watch live music and enjoy some drinks with my Riveter Sisters! Colleen (pictured on the left) is our Retail Manager. Laura (my friend and photographer) is behind the camera of course and she is the Manufacturing Manager!
